Nestled in the heart of South London, this spot has garnered a loyal following thanks to its authentic flavors, welcoming atmosphere, and standout menu that celebrates Persian cuisine with a modern twist.

Located at 1 Bedale St, London SE1 9AL, United Kingdom, Berenjak Borough offers much more than just a meal - it provides a cultural experience wrapped up in delicious, expertly prepared dishes. Whether you're a fan of Persian food or a newcomer eager to explore, this spot offers something for everyone.

What truly sets Berenjak Borough apart from other restaurants in the area is the authenticity of the dishes. The restaurant takes inspiration from Tehran's traditional street food, presenting flavors that transport you directly to the streets of Iran. From tender kebabs to comforting stews, each dish is crafted with fresh ingredients and a deep respect for Persian culinary traditions.

One of the standout items on the menu is their kebabs, which are grilled to perfection and served with a side of fluffy rice, pickled vegetables, and grilled tomatoes. The chicken kebab, in particular, is juicy, perfectly seasoned, and packed with flavor. If you're feeling a bit more adventurous, try the koobideh, a minced lamb kebab that's bursting with spices and is as tender as it is flavorful.

But Berenjak Borough isn’t just about kebabs. The restaurant also offers a range of Persian-inspired small plates that are ideal for sharing. Their khoresh, a rich Persian stew, is a must-try - especially the fesenjan, a duck stew made with pomegranate molasses and ground walnuts. It's a complex dish that perfectly balances sweet and savory flavors. The menu also includes a variety of salads, dips, and sides, all bursting with fresh ingredients.

Another aspect of Berenjak Borough that keeps diners coming back is the incredible attention to detail in both the food and the dining environment. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with contemporary yet cozy decor that creates the perfect backdrop for enjoying a meal with friends or family. The service is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels at home.

The drinks menu at Berenjak Borough complements the food beautifully, featuring an impressive selection of wines, cocktails, and Persian-inspired beverages. Their signature cocktails incorporate herbs and spices commonly found in Persian cooking, adding an extra layer of flavor that ties perfectly with the meal.

  • What a lovely experience! Berenjak Borough was the best Persian food I've ever eaten. Every course was perfectly balanced in flavour and prepared with meticulous attention to detail. The quality of the ingredients is stands out and the ambiance is modern, vibrant, and yet very cozy, and the service is attentive, warm, and professional. Highly recommend visiting especially with the rough competition next door. The lunch set menus was exceptional value and drinks were reasonably prices

  • Great Persian cuisine in Borough Market. A lovely experience with big flavours, nice cocktails and lively atmosphere. It’s extremely popular, advance booking strongly recommended. Sometimes it’s possible to get on the waitlist if in the area, but not guaranteed. Well worth a visit, reasonably priced for the quality and experience. Good location by London Bridge and a cosy restaurant. Menu changes, but anything grilled meat as well as the bread with the variety of small plates is amazing.

  • Really great value for delicious, flavorful food. Not sure whether it’s just in my memory or an off day, but I do feel like the soho branch is a tad better / well balanced. Dips and bread were amazing, as was the chicken. We went for a fish stew as well to change it up which felt extremely oily, albeit well seasoned… great texture on the rice and salad. Would recommend if you’re in the area and can manage to get a table!

  • Amazing food! Lovely service! We had the lunch set menu £35pp so my friend and I ordered different items so we can experience some of their food. The place was a tad narrow but very homey and authentic. We were seated on the counter seat so we had a nice view of food preparation. We had taftoon (which was soft and fluffy), sangak ( a bit tough to be honest), their famous hummus (I’m sorry but I feel confused with the taste - I still prefer the regular hummus), black truffle olivieh (this is a must order!), koobideh kabab (minced lamb shoulder, super tender and delicious) and jujeh kabab (moist and well-seasoned), shirazi (tomato and cucumber chop salad - refreshing and cuts down the greasy taste) and house rice. I had a glass of red wine and my friend had this coffee rum drink that was so strong. We actually ordered their fried potatoes which didn’t arrive but it’s okay. The staff apologised and gave as Persian tea on the house which was a nice ending to a scrumptious meal. Our total bill was £101. We were so full and we didn’t finish it so we had the leftovers for takeaway ◡̈

  • Good meal start to finish. The hummus alone is worth going for, as is the fork-tender koobideh kabab and ghormeh sabzi. Get both breads and lots of dips to start, then go for one of the grills and one of the stews. Very nice but with that said, it’s not mind blowing - enough to try at least once. Beautiful interiors and dining space, but reservations absolutely essential to enjoy table seating.
